Making art is a journey through my self; the final pieces are documents of my life. Spontaneous work is the most genuine because it comes directly from my
subconcious. The process comes naturally, and the finished product is neccessary for discovery and therapy. Curiosity fuels my need to create.
Studying my work raises questions about my life, psyche, and self; but also eventually answers them. My hope is that you may also question,
answer, remember, dream and learn while viewing my work.

Mary Margaret Sweeney uses the medium of etching in its best traditional manner. Her prints have the poise and polish of the Old Masters or the nineteenth-century Etching Revivalists. Sweeney is continually inspired by New England Landscape. With her eyes attuned to the linear vocabulary of etching she finds patterns everywhere in rocks, trees and uneven horizons. While many of her prints depict figures, still lifes and interiors, she always returns to her favorite forested landscapes.

"I live in the places I photograph. This is how I come to know them deeply, and to relate the lessons that I garner from that relationship. Currently, as I have been photographing the Isles of Shoals, I have not seen with the eyes of a visitor, but with the eyes of an intimate who has resided there in solitude through many winters as the caretaker. It is important to me to have a relationship with the subject of my photographs, to be deeply familiar. I believe that this makes the work more intimate, more heartfelt, and therefore stronger."

Ryan Flaherty and the Hungry Moon Ryan Flaherty
7 Wentworth Kittery ME
603-540-6410 ryanflaherty@live.com
www.ryanflahertymusic.com
Ryan Flaherty and the Hungry Moon Band
Featuring the sultry vocals and percussive guitar stylings of singer-songwriter Ryan Flaherty. A mix of Flamenco, Arabic, Americana, Jazz and Gypsy idioms with a heaping scoop of soulful and poetic vocals.
"With his debut solo CD, guitarist and singer Ryan Flaherty has resoundingly arrived on the Seacoast, offering a flavorful stew of eclectic music" says editor Matt Kanner of The Wire. "Formerly of local gypsy jazz trio Ameranouche, Flaherty has parlayed his skillful guitar chops and soulful vocals into these original compositions, reflecting elements of gypsy, flamenco, Arabic, rock and jazz. Much in the way of David Wax Museum incorporates traditional Mexican music into American folk, Flaherty brings styles of Eastern Europe to his own brand of Americana."
"Flaherty, who spent some time in the gypsy jazz trio, Ameranouche, has stepped up to the plate solo and smoked the ball right out of the park. You can still hear the influence of gypsy flavored guitar textures resonating throughout, which is augmented by an array of Arabic, flamenco, Americana and jazz inspired flavors." raves Matt Kanner of the Seacoast Spotlight. "Flaherty's percussive guitar playing is a masterful revelation that helps define his music. Even as stylistic genre shifts occur, the playing acts as the anchor to "Hungry Moon's" full-on explorative musical journey."
Ryan Flaherty is a fiery guitar player and soul-bent singer, with gypsy guitar chops and provocative lyrics, Flaherty and The Hungry Moon Band bring what can be described as a Middle Eastern Roadhouse Blues to the forefront of their musical attire. Flaherty grew up around blues, jazz and folk music. As soon as he could escape from highschool, Flaherty left home and spent a great deal of time traveling the states and eventually landing in Europe. He fell in love with the Gypsy and Flamenco culture and the passion of the songs saturated his being. Flaherty returned to the states and naturally began blending these styles with his own roots of folk, jazz and blues. His music is culturally diverse with influences ranging form Woody Guthrie and Lead Belly to Django Reinhardt and Taraf De Haidouks.
Flaherty, originally from Rock Island, IL and now residing in Portsmouth, NH, recently released his new album, Hungry Moon, a celebration of original music, blending gypsy, arabic, flamenco, americana and jazz. Though not wed to any one tradition, the artist pays homage to each genre throughout Hungry Moon and celebrates each sound as one. The music is passionate and intoxicating, fine-tuned with percussive guitar, howling vocals and seductive lyrics. Also featured on the album is cello and violin prodigy Daisy Castro and her mother Ann Castro on vocals. Ryan's new album, Hungry Moon, is available locally at Bull Moose Music and can also be downloaded on Itunes.
"Flaherty is trained in flamenco guitar, and he brings a range of world styles to his debut disc. Hints of Van Morrison and Tom Waits revolve around a core of gypsy jazz and Arabic folk, all delivered with soulful vocals." - Matt Kanner, editor of The Wire
"Look out world, this guys got your number. Tons of styles smelted, combined and poured into guitar strings. Do not douse yourself with gasoline before coming to this show, his fingers will light you on fire." - BA Canning
Between 2005-2011 Flaherty played rhythm guitar for the award winning Gypsy Jazz trio Ameranouche. Flaherty has shared the stage with many talented musicians including John Jorgenson, Stephane Wrembel and Robin Nolan. As a member of Ameranouche, Flaherty has opened for many renowned artists including Esperanza Spalding, Herbie Hancock and the Carolina Chocolate Drops. Flaherty also opened for the Avett Brothers in Knoxville, TN. A highlight for Flaherty was performing at the Newport Jazz Festival.
