Art-Speak's "Louder Than Words"

The artistic creations of more than 35 local students are on display around town in celebration of Youth Art Month, supported by Art-Speak.

Twenty downtown merchants are displaying the works of students grades K through 12 as part of Portsmouth's schools' visual arts program.

Art-Speak, the city's cultural commission, has partnered with the local businesses to present Art-Speak's "Louder than Words" as part of Youth Art Month, a national program that promotes art and art education throughout the country.

"Youth Art Month is an amazing opportunity for students to share the fruits of their labor with the community," says Anna  Nuttall, visual arts teacher at Portsmouth Middle School and a member of the Art-Speak board of directors. "Each work of art reflects hours of problem-solving, creative thinking, technical skills and most importantly, personal expression. We are thankful that so many businesses show they value arts education through their support of the students' art show."

Works of art on display at the local businesses now through the end of March include ceramics, drawings, paintings, prints, and photographs.
